Circles

When you think of parking lots, you probably envision rows of empty cars waiting patiently for their operator to return. Parking lots also see the passing of time and space leaving nothing behind but a memory of matter that once was there.

This photo was captured with a very long exposure. The vehicle traveled through total darkness illuminating its path over a great distance. A nocturnal lens would easily capture this image but would result in a shallow depth of field and ruin the effect! I also feel that any photo taken with an ISO greater than 100 is a travesty as the resulting image is too grainy to enlarge. This meant that I need to use a higher f-stop value, which darkens the image but grants a greater depth of field, while also negotiating with a very low light sensitivity setting (ISO 100). A very long exposure with a properly timed journey through the parking lot at just the right time created the desired effect of lights trailing through space.
